Torrs Hydro New Mills

Torr Top Street, New Mills, High Peak SK22 4BS·New Mills, Derbyshire, England

About

Torrs Hydro is a community-owned hydroelectric scheme on the River Goyt in New Mills, Derbyshire. The Archimedean screw turbine generates clean electricity from the weir, with surplus revenue funding community projects in the local area. The 63 kW scheme generates approximately 240,000 kWh annually — enough for around 60 homes. Since commissioning, over £100,000 in surplus has been distributed to local community initiatives.

Mission

To generate community-owned renewable energy, demonstrate the viability of small-scale hydro, and channel the financial benefits back into our local community.
